Merry Christmas (December 25): Celebration of Faith, Joy, and Unity

Today is Merry Christmas (December 25). Like other countries around the world, this day is being celebrated in Bangladesh with due religious reverence, rituals, and festivities. Christians commemorate this day as the birth anniversary of Jesus Christ, the founder of Christianity, who was born in Bethlehem. His life, teachings, and guidance continue to inspire millions across the globe.

Festivities and Decorations

On this occasion, churches across Dhaka and the entire country have been adorned with special decorations. Alongside the churches, star-rated hotels in the capital have also been beautifully illuminated since last evening, attracting widespread attention. Inside the hotels, artificial Christmas trees and Santa Claus figures have been set up to amplify the festive spirit. On Christmas Eve, special prayers were held in various churches.

Messages from the President and Chief Advisor

The President of Bangladesh, Md. Shahabuddin, and the Chief Advisor, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, have delivered separate messages on the occasion of Christmas.

In his message, the President stated:
“To establish a corruption-free, equitable, and just state, we must strengthen the bonds of communal harmony. I urge everyone, irrespective of religion, caste, or creed, to unite in building a modern and developed Bangladesh.”

Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus mentioned:
“Bangladesh is a country of communal harmony. For centuries, people of all religions, ethnicities, and communities have lived here in peace and unity. I hope that Christmas will further strengthen the existing harmony and brotherhood among the Christian community and others in the country.”
He also emphasized the commitment of the interim government to establishing an inclusive society and called on everyone to contribute to the nation’s development.

Exchanging Greetings with Christian Leaders

On the occasion of Christmas, the Chief Advisor exchanged greetings with Christian community leaders at the state guesthouse Jamuna. During the event, he praised their contributions to the country’s overall progress.

Security Measures in the Capital

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has heightened security across the capital to ensure a smooth celebration of Christmas. Additional vigilance has been deployed in churches, hotels, and other significant locations. However, to maintain order during the festivities, the DMP has prohibited fireworks, crackers, and lantern flying in Dhaka from midnight Tuesday to midnight Wednesday.

Christmas Greetings

This day is not only a celebration for Christians but also carries a universal message of unity and peace for all. The Christmas festivities transcend boundaries of religion and community, reinforcing bonds of harmony and goodwill. Let us hope that this Merry Christmas brings joy, love, and prosperity to everyone.
